Learn something new for 2026! Come discover a calming hobby! Crafting beautiful letters by hand is the purpose of this relaxing class. We will have fun learning the basics of this lovely, popular style. Live, real-time, online instruction includes detailed instruction on all 26 minuscules (lower case letters), the use of a calligraphy cartridge pen, inks, guidelines, handouts, and optimal working conditions. Repeat students enjoy this class as a refresher course to improve their Italic hand. Supply list: • Pilot Parallel Pen, size 3.8 mm • Ink of your choice (Pilot cartridges or Higgins Eternal are good) • Paper of your choice - something that doesn't bleed with your ink choice (Rhodia is good; if you use graph paper please use 8 squares/inch grid) • Pencil - mechanical is fine or a drawing pencil in range 2H - 2B • Eraser • Ruler of your choice - I prefer a clear grid ruler in 18" such as Wescott Optional supplies: 6" Goniometer (helpful for analyzing pen angles and slope) Decorative papers for making a small project (to be discussed in class) This class will be conducted via Zoom. Don't worry, it's easy even if you've never done an online class! You will need a webcam to participate in the class. The one built into your computer is fine. Be sure to indicate if you are right-handed or left-handed in the comment section when you register. Class meets on 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22. I have reserved 3/1 as a make-up day just in case we need it. Can't attend on these dates? Here are two more options: 1) Buy the class and view the recordings at your convenience through 5/31/26. All else will be the same: emails, handouts, etc. 2) Private lessons. You decide on how many sessions and the frequency. I will gladly customize the lesson plans for your specific needs and pace, whether beginner or beyond. I offer many subjects in private lessons.
